Bio

My name is Madeline Vincenzi. I have taken early retirement from a career in allied health to pursue my first love; art.

I grew up in New Zealand and from a young age my sisters and I loved to draw, we would spend long hours drawing during weekends and summers lying on our wooden deck in the sun. Since the age of 8 my goal was to work as an artist in some way. As a teenager our family moved to Western Australia. After high school I studied Graphic Design at Perth Technical College. At the end of my second year I won first prize for a poster design advertising an art exhibition hosted by Sabemo Engineering; the win was a big boost to my confidence.

Following study I gained work experience with Directions design studio in West Perth. Then I worked part time with Sonic Souvenir in Leederville and a children’s clothing company; Barrymore Trading in Fremantle, behind the Dingo Flour Mill.

During this time I married, had two children and moved to North Queensland. While the children were young I worked as a freelance artist producing portraits of both people and animals.

Once my children started school I studied Occupational Therapy and started working in 2008. While I enjoyed the work, my goal was to ultimately transition back to art, but the reality of this remained on the ‘back burner’ for far too long. Paintings I started sat unfinished for years.

My children and I returned to Western Australia, it wasn’t until the end of 2021 circumstances gave me the push I needed to get back to my art. I now live in the ‘Great Southern’ area of Western Australia.

I am in love with our stunning scenery, particularly the Porongurups and Stirling Ranges, along with the native flora and fauna. My idea of heaven is to spend every day painting on location like artists of a previous era.
